Idea has officially launched their 3G network services in three Indian circles (Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat) today. They are also planning to launch it in some other circles like Kerala, Punjab and Goa.
How to activate 3G in your Idea SIM ?
To activate 3G services in your Idea SIM SMS ‘ACT 3G’ TO 12345. You will get a confirmation SMS after that. If you haven’t received the configurations settings yet SMS ‘SET’ to 12345. There is no additional settings required for 3G, you can use the same settings that used for 2G services. Your desired 3G data plans can be activated by recharging with the amounts listed below.
Idea 3G Data Plans
Idea provides you 5 types of 3G data plans.
- Sachet Based
- Usage Based
- Time Based
- Data Rate Cutter
- Dongle Tariffs
Sachet Based and Time Based data plans are only applicable in prepaid connections. Other plans can be activated in both prepaid and postpaid connections. You can check the details of different data plans from below. In some circles there is some slight variations in tariffs from the below information.

There is an option in your handset which provides both 2G and 3G. May be it’s still remain 2G.Go to your handset Network Mode and change it. If you are using an Android phone it’s ‘GSM/WCDMA’ and for Symbian it’s ‘Dual’. If need any further details about 3G call 12345 from your idea connection.

You can use the same 2G settings for 3G also, so no need to reconfigure it again. You just need to SMS ‘ACT 3G’ TO 12345 for 3G activation and you will get a confirmation SMS after that. 3.5G is a faster 3G network.

For Android phones GSM/WCDMA is the option instead of Dual. Is that in your phone ?
yes i have selected GSM/WCDMA…when i tried with my friend’s idea sim card 3g worked …i was getting full WCDMA network but when i put back my own sim card the case was the same no 3g …it was always in EDGE i.e. GSM mode I also tried by selecting ‘WCDMA only’ mode but i got no succews instead i was getting no network in that mode nd then wen I got back to GSM/WCDMA mode it comes to 2g again

You don’t need to worry about that. Nokia c5-03 is 3G compatible with a speed of 10.2 Mbps(HSDPA), 2 Mbps (HSUPA ). If you want to activate 3G services on your Idea connection, send ACT 3G TO 12345.

3G speed depends on your phone also. Nokia 2730 provides a maximum speed of 384 kbps in 3G network.
But it is giving only about 5-6 kbps

It’ll take about 24 hours for activation. If it dint get activate within that time you need to contact the person (dealer), from whom you bought that device.

THE DATA PLAN OF 3G IS VERY HIGH AND IT MUST BE 1GB @ RS 98. SO PLIS MOBILE NETWORK PROVIDER SHOULD NOT LOOT PUBLIC.. SO PLS BE CARE FUL IN CHOOSING THE RITE NET WORK.

Reason is tht Idea don’t have its own licenses for 3G service and it hires connection service from other service providers such as airtel, vodafone or bsnl(if u are in roaming). I had a talked for atleast 1 hour with internal Idea executive, at first he was not willing to reveal the truth but giving him some bribe(whisky bottle), he revealed more insider truth about Idea cellular and in which one of them was tht it uses illegal 3G and thats why some peoples get the 3G network fast after activation and some times you wont get network of 3G even if u have most compatible phone. Now people just tell me tht do u get idea 3g network mostly as like airtel and vodafone? Offcourse you wont get all time because it a cheater network.

We cant do anything regarding the speed, i think time is one factor, better try it in another time when most of the users are off or try contacting the IDEA customer care service, they can definitely clear your doubts.

It seems lot of people are having problems with 3G connection from Idea. Here is one of them. I am using a Galaxy Note on CM9 OS. Work in Dubai, visiting Thane for 3 months. Subscribed to Idea3G prepaid one month one GB package. Worked fine for 7 days. Then 3G changed to Edge. Called up Idea, they said I must have switchedy 3G off. Although chances were slim for such stupidity. But rechecked it. Even removed the SIM and inserted into my Galaxy SIII, still shows the internet is Edge mode. All 3G seetings in both phones are in order. So a word of caution to all future subscribers. Also found several blog postings of similar problems. Further, when I called for I beleive the fourth time.They told me it may be the weather which now is cloudy and rainy. Well 3G has nothing to do with the weather as it is line of site communication. So be careful…….

I have iPhone 4. I tried to activate 3G by sending ACT 3G to 12345. I got a reply saying that my 3G activation has been registered. Does it mean 3G has already been activated in my phone?
Also, the reply says “to configure internet setting in your handset, SMS SET to 54671″. I did the same but got a reply “You have not subscribed for the requested service”? Is it bcoz 3G is yet to be activated?

but my 3G services are still not working and yesterday I received another message saying ‘Dear Customer, Your documents are not received since activation. Kindly submit the documents at the nearest my Idea to avoid interruption in the services’

i have 2g pack(Idea) at present in my mobile and iam using android mobile. Suppose if I activate 3G service in my mobile from customer end( i mean not activating by sending ACT3G sms). Will this 2g pack is deactivated.
In vodafone if u activate 3G service from customer end, 2G pack is not deactivated, but if u activate it by sending ACT3G sms from ur mobile then it will be deactivated.

I have samsung galaxy grand, i have send ACT 3G to 12345 and also received the confirmation after 2 hrs, but still it is showing e near the network column and also speed is very slow like 2G can you help me out, is there something like idea is using airtel 3G network or something in the settings need to be changed?
